TL;DR
- You want to change, you feel motivated, but nothing ever seems to stick
- Change in yourself is much less effective when nothing in your environment changes. Change the environment and you might not even have to think about changing yourself.
Notes
- Let’s say you go to your doctor because you have heart problems, and they tell you that your lack of self care could be fatal if not changed. So they tell you to eat healthier, exercise more, sleep more, so on.
- You, being human, are likely to leave that appointment, even though your life is at risk, and not change anything, or change some things for a little while and slip back into your old habits.
- This is what happens when you don’t change your environment. Internally you might believe and know that you need this change, but its the environment, or external factors, that will dictate how hard that change is.
- If you can look at your personal system, the foods you buy, why you buy them, the moods you feel that cause you to eat a certain way, etc. you can understand what REALLY needs to change to make your environment more likely to HELP you than hold you back
