The system affects the habit

TL;DR

  • Your habits are not isolated, change your environment (the system around that habit) and it will make your new habit more likely to stick.

Notes

  • Habits are components of systems, they do not come out of nowhere, and they have effects on other parts of the system (your life).
  • When you change a habit, that habit will effect other parts of your life.
  • When trying to change a habit, you need to change other parts of your life.
  • In other words, the habit you are trying to create, in order to stick, needs to be a byproduct of the other things you do in your life.
