The catch-all book

TL;DR

  • Keep a physical journal, braindump everything into it, note insights throughout your day, and review weekly or daily.
  • This keeps the ideas on paper so you don’t have to worry about forgetting and losing track of potentially valuable thoughts.

Notes

The catch-all book is an incredible tool for learning and time management.

There are two main purposes for my use:

  • Daily tasks and ideas
  • Notes from things I learn about

I will reach for this journal first to capture all the thoughts, which gives me the benefits of handwriting. The real benefit, however, comes from when I review the book to synthesize, reword, and clarify my thoughts at the end of the day or week.

Many people try the notebook thing because they find it aesthetic or satisfying, but without a habit of reviewing every day or weekly, you’re severely missing out and not going to engrain it in your brain. This is why I have Notion, because it gives me an excuse to review and actually rewrite my notes, and continuously review them as well.
