Ken Wilber’s Integral Model: A theory of everything

TL;DR

  • Ken Wilber created a model to try and model consciousness itself. There’s so many schools of thoughts from neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, religion, etc., that he combined all their thoughts into one model.
  • Using this model, you can try to define a problem you have into these different categories and it will help you have a broader, more holistic understanding of all the elements involved.

Notes

  • Intention (Individual – Internal)
    • Think about the problem from this perspective, what elements of your own thoughts and beliefs are contributing to it or might be affected?
  • Behavior (Individual – External)
    • Your behavior and what you do to interact with the world and others around you.
  • Shared values (Collective – Internal)
    • In a company or teams context, what are the shared beliefs and norms you have? What affect do they have or how might they be affected?
  • Systems (Collective – External)
    • The “real” part of an organization, the actual tools and processes you use to get work done.

  • As a leader, you should be constantly thinking about how the decisions you make affect these different categories of your company, or what roles these parts play in creating something meaningful for clients.
