TL;DR
- Keep job training simple, repetitive, and use feedback to get the most out of it, it doesn’t have to be complicated or fancy.
Notes
- Training should be:
- Continuous
- Always be learning, if your training stops after onboarding, you are severely limiting your organization’s potential (and your employee’s personal growth!)
- Accessible
- It shouldn’t be a hassle to conduct or review
- Performance focused
- Don’t just teach, get them to actually perform
- If it’s a simple task, at least 50 repetitions is needed to be proficient
- Supported by leaders
- If leaders don’t see the value, why would anyone support it or try to follow along? Leaders likely won’t do the training properly anyways.
- A safe space
- For questions, trying new things, and learning without judgment.
- Continuous
- Amount of training by type
- On-the-job training – 70%
- Social learning/ other training – 20%
- Formal videos/ programs – 10%
